The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP) is pleased to invite you to learn about some of the brightest results of its 7-year work by presenting you a 40 minute documentary, called “The Last Second”. The GEF SGP’s mission is coming to an end in Bulgaria, but the people who implemented over 100 projects will keep the programme’s idea alive - sustainable development is possible and it requires action by each of us. Enjoy the film, and we would be glad to hear your feedback.

If we imagine that life on Earth stargted 24 hours ago, people appeared in its last second of the last hour. The film will guide you to the understanding of the negative impact humanity has caused on the planet and how we can continue to live sustainably, in harmony with nature.

Congratulations to the team who created this film!

INTRODUCTION TO SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME

Since its inception in 1992, the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program (SGP) has been promoting grassroots action to address global environmental concerns. SGP aims to deliver global environmental benefits in the five GEF focal areas:

  • biodiversity conservation,
  • climate change mitigation
  • protection of international waters
  • prevention of land degradation
  • elimination of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

The GEF SGP is implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on behalf of the three GEF Implementing Agencies – UNDP, World Bank and United Nations Environment Programme and is executed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).   Bulgaria applies for SGP opening in 2002 and receives approval in the summer of 2005.
